Do Your Body a Favor! 7 Steps to Help Prevent Disease and Maintain Your Health
Are you ready to Do Your Body a Favor?
Even though you have made health a priority and are highly motivated to take care of yourself, trying to stay healthy can feel overwhelming. The effort to prevent disease, know your risks, deal with the healthcare system, make healthy lifestyle choices and more can make your head spin.
Yet if you're like most people, it's not that you aren't getting information. It's that you don't get the right information and don't really know where to start and what to do. It's confusing and stressful to try to sort through advice on what works and what doesn't.
When you get sick, the problem tends to get worse. Not only are you scared about the impact your illness has on your life, but navigating the healthcare system--dealing with busy doctors and staff, managing medications, getting everyone on the same page--your page!--can feel like a full-time job for which few of us are prepared.
Most personal health advice, plans, or programs lack a comprehensive approach and therefore fail. They focus on one narrow aspect of health, or on symptoms of poor health, or they offer a quick fix for a real or imagined health issue. The problem is that people often don’t understand what causes disease and what creates better health. Each of us is unique and there is no “one size fits all” approach to personal healthcare.
To make matters worse, information on preventing disease and maintaining good health tends to be:
- Overly complex and hard to apply to your life--this is what you might hear from your doctor in the few minutes you spend with him or her.
- Overly simplified, too focused one thing or on trendy cures or fads--this is what you might see on TV, the internet, or from friends or family.
